Not a good description of Vineland or _VL_ but a good description of 
what some characters (i.e., Zoyd) think about their lot in post-'60s 
America. Of course that kind of thinking is what has them WORKING for
the Government and addicted to the Tube. This kind of thinking about
America is quite obviously satirized in the opening scenes and chapters.
