The State of the P-List (part 2)

Also, a few listers stressed methods in which that type of comparative reading can be done, offering a blueprint for the PF read that would satisfy both PF and Pynchon readers, again to wit:

Vincent A. Maeder: "[...]the discussion toward Nabokov's Influences on Pynchon through Pale Fire."

Davemarc's suggestion for how to conduct a PF/VL simul-read:

Vincent A. Maeder, again, offering a multitude of connections between Nabokov and Pynchon; will someone take up the task?:

Bandwraith: "I think one area of interesting comparison and contrast between the two author's might be this notion of creative freedom."

Again, you get the idea. Seek out more examples if you wish. They're there.

Rather than trying to turn this into an "us" vs. "them" situation, which resolves nothing and prolongs the bickering and wastes mailbox space and makes the reading of either book less enjoyable for the others, I maintain that efforts be made on the part of the PF readers to link their reading of Nabokov to the subject of this listserve community. Some, like Terrance and Bandwraith and Rob and a couple of others, have begun to do just that and I'm sure the general lister population is grateful. Others (and you know who are) can do what you want, thus short-shrifting other readers (and, frankly, yourselves) of a pretty compelling literary endeavor.

Anyways, as I've mentioned to a couple of people offlist, nothing in my position has been directed toward impatiently pestering all the PF readers to hurry up and make connections to P, as one person has erroneously stated. Instead, I've been wrangling with a few PF readers who seem to *now* be suggesting that connecting PF to P isn't all that necessary.

It has not been my position on this thread to ask why we aren't "there" yet ... merely to confirm that it's still our destination.

Respectfully,
