NP False advertising?

Was the veracity and authenticity of that Playboy Japan "interview" ever
confirmed? I note that it was advertised here on 8 January 2002 that
"several people are inquiring into this matter" with the promise that we
should "learn something definitive about it sooner rather than later."

Thus far, I've seen nothing "definitive" which would suggest that the
published item represents something which Pynchon even said, let alone that
he willingly gave an interview to a journalist from Playboy Japan.
