VLVL2 (1): Annotations (pp. 7 - 9)

7.18 "George Lucas" California-born film director, noted for THX 1138 (1971), American Graffiti (1973), and, of course, the entire Star Wars franchise.

7.23 Return of the Jedi (1983) Third of the Star Wars films made (but actually sixth in the chronological sequence of the saga), the film focuses on an older, wiser Luke Skywalker as he rescues his friends from the evil Empire and confronts his father and his past. Of the three original films, this is perhaps the one most rooted in exploring family relationships and values (father/son, father/daughter, brother/sister).

9.17 "Jeopardy" Created in 1964 by Merv Griffin (in the dining room of his apartment, no less), this popular game show, hosted by Alex Trebek, entered syndication in 1984. Its well-known "answer-before-the-question" format reflects the paranoid sensibility of this chapter.
