12.12 "Que rico, que sabroso!" "How rich, how delicious!"

12.15 "TV Guide" Introduced in 1953, this weekly publication continues to document the ever-changing popular tastes of the television-viewing public. The mention of this publication is apt, considering the social commentary Pynchon will offer in this novel thru the Tube, Thanatoids, etc.

12.19 "Euchred again" In Euchre cardplaying terminology, the verb means "to deny a trumpmaker of taking at least three tricks required to score in a hand; the standard reward for euchring an opponant is two points." Basically, it's a cardplaying move that denies an advantage to another (i.e. opposing) player.

This is another term often found in Pynchon's works (cf. GR: "Well: he guesses They have euchred [Roger] Mexico into some such Byzantine exercise, probably to do with the Americans" [pp. 34 - 5]).

12.37 "Wheel of Fortune" Another popular game show created by Merv Griffin; begun airing in 1975 with original host Chuck Woolery (1975 - 1981), later (and presently) hosted by Pat Sajak and hostess/letter-turner Vanna White.
