I haven't suggested such. I don't think we can know
with any certainty what's in the dream beyond the few
details given -- carrier pigeons, missed message. Zoyd
is, like Rip, out of time, spaced out, he expresses
bewilderment, irritatation at getting some kind of
run-around, he wonders what's up with Hector, but no
sign of guilt.  I don't agree with your reading of the
novel's opening, simple as that.
