Good point, Jasper.
I recall hearing somewhere (a college prof, maybe?) that iambics became the
primary rhythm of choice in English because their rhythm was most naturally
suited to the speech patterns of the English language, as opposed to dactyls
or anapests, etc.
It's certainly interesting to revisit that notion with someone who has
experience and fluency with other languages!
