The fact that parts of the Foreword could be read in the _The Guardian_ and
not in the _NYT_ like some of his other non-fictional stuff before gives me
the impression that the Playboy interview where he speaks about his
disappointment with the NYT since 9/11 and is praising _The Guardian_ is no
fake.

Following him in this since I've read that interview I can only agree to
him. _The Guardian_ is not simply repeating what Condy and Rummy are telling
but is more critical of official statements, without falling to that abuse
of the term 'fascism' or 'fascists' we find for example in _The
Counterpunch_. I still read William Safire but I prefer Maureen Dowd or
Thomas Friedman.

"Donald Rumsfeld, the US Defence Secretary, has admitted that the elusive
weapons may never be found, suggesting that Saddam may have destroyed them
before the war. Mr Rumsfeld's deputy, Paul Wolfowitz, asserts that disarming
the Iraqi dictator was only 'a bureaucratic reason' for attack. Even more
disturbingly for Mr Blair, a senior intelligence official claims that
Downing Street wanted the dossier outlining Saddam's threat 'sexed up' and
that information was included against security services' advice. Adam
Ingram, the Armed Forces Minister, has admitted Mr Blair's key claim, that a
chemical or biological attack could be unleashed at 45 minutes' notice, was
based on an uncorroborated source."

It would have simply been better if the inspectors could have done their job
without forcing them to leave Iraq. Nobody with a clear mind will trust the
CIA or MI6 or the 1,400 experts presenting the proof later, now that the
victors are there and can fake everything they want, using their own
arsenals of anthrax, VX or mustard for this.

Wer einmal lügt dem glaubt man nicht und wenn er auch die Wahrheit spricht.
