This might be a bit of a platitude (well alright a lot) but perhaps it
needs to be pointed out that two wrongs don't necessarily make a right.
So if they were lying about the justification for war, that's OK? Does
it not indicate that there was another agenda altogether? The
humanitarian agenda was touted as at best a side issue - it just so
happened that the decade or so of Amnesty reports suddenly helped make
the case. The liberal view, espoused by people like David Aaronovitch in
the Guardian, that this invasion was justified on humanitarian grounds,
seems a little naive. Please - humanitarian intervention it wasn't.
Interesting too that in Robert's post he feels it necessary to state
that Iraqis are actually human beings! Why would you need to say that
unless it's a common assumption that they are something less?
Dehumanising propaganda at work?
