Pynchon "does very little" of what in the Foreword?
He constantly offers his interpretations of what the text "means" (eg. "the
Winston-Julia story", Orwell's Appendix), discusses what readers at various
times wrongly thought it meant, addresses "Orwell's intention" throughout
the essay, and he focuses on the text from an overtly political perspective.
