Well, that's not quite my concern at the moment, I'm
simply trying to clean up my inbox, is all, and I'm
doing it in reverse order (which is how Yahoo! tends
to make you do it), is that what you all have been on
about? Well, the interesting thing about that Lewis
Carroll poem is of course how it conjures up certain
ideas, images, whatever, without quite deploying much
of any actual words, in English or otherwise. But it
sure does invoke them, allude to them, even, if I may,
which I'm guessing is the challenge those translations
Hofstadter reprints took on. But even given my
cursory "reading" of FW ("waved my eyes over it," is
how I tend to put it, like vermouth in an aridly dry
martini), I'd venture JJ (as opposed to JJJ) is often
up to something similar, albeit more lexically
complicated. Or maybe not. A freind is reading
Finnegans Wake these days, I'll get some feedback ...
