I don't think you can support that allegation, Otto. 
It looks to me as if a group of P-listers wants to
read Vineland for its own sake.  Your comment is
unfair, and sounds emotionally motivated. 

After sleeping on it, I say let the folks who don't
want to read Pynchon go ahead and read whatever they
want. 

People who want to read Pynchon and discuss Pynchon
can do that, too -- for all the reasons others have
presented, Vineland is an excellent choice given the
occupation of the White House by those of facistic
disposition. 

It will be interesting to see if the anti-Pynchon
clique can do anything interesting with Pale Fire. 

Meanwhile, I suspect that a Vineland discussion will
be enjoyable, especially if fq and his Inner Circle
are focused on Pale Fire.

I expect some people will want to read both novels and
follow along with both discussions, too.
