>>>Keith is at an advantage since he has three people hosting his section<<<

By the time we get to that section I would suggest that each participant
purchase two copies of Pale Fire and two copies of Vineland. Carefully place
the two copies of Vineland closed flat on your desk or lap. Open one copy of
Pale Fire to the Cantos section and place it on top of one copy of Vineland
using it as a handy bookstand. Similarly, open the other copy of Pale Fire
to the Commentary section and place it atop the other copy of Vineland. This
process can be reversed with one copy of Vineland when you wish to
participate in the VLVL2 discussion, but at all times one copy of Pale Fire
will remain open and ready should curiosity or inspiration strike. Be sure
to leave the copy of Pale Fire open to the section in which you are
interested at any given time to avoid needless juggling in a moment of
literary passion. However, for those of you placing the book arrangement in
your laps, extracurricular satisfaction may result from juggling texts, and
there will times of confusion and frustration, both with the text and with
other participants in the discussion, which may be relieved by lapular
rotation and longitudinal juggularity. Please be advised that over the past
year, although until now I have not thought it fair to reveal this, that I
have had the privilege of making personal and regular contact with Thomas
Pynchon himself, and he has agreed to coach me through my hosting tenure
during which he is prepared to reveal, through me, that Vineland is actually
Pale Fire re-written in code. Thomas' wife has urged me to ask the group
when referring to Mr. Pynchon, to refer to him by his full first name,
Thomas, while pronouncing it as they would in Spanish. toe-MOSS. Thomas has
been reading along on the P-list with me from time to time, and he has also
asked me to let several of you know what he thinks of your readings of his
work, so some of that may come up from time to time, but only if we begin
straying from what Pale Fire is really all about. Blessings to all of you on
behalf of Thomas, and we look forward to this two two two discussions in
one.
