Hemingway eschewed the first person because he felt it
was too easy.

Also, one can't forget the second person, the
signature style of Jimmy Cannon ("You're Joe Louis;
you're forty years old, and your legs don't work so
good anymore ..."), later used to such grand effect by
Jay MacInery.
