I'd say this is a typical P-List overreaction, and I'd
be right, but ...

... but it is, so ... so, again, a floor wax AND a
dessert topping.  Centrifugal AND centripetal
tendencies.  I think Pynchon's interest, at least, and
especially in Garvity's Rainbow and Vineland, has been
in how we tend to succumb to the centrifugal, to
power, not only despite centripetal tendencies, but
perhaps also, if not necessarily always, because of
them.  Complex, complicated, nuanced, whatever.  I
still think that comment of Chrissie Jolly's/Siegel's
in Lineland about GR and the hippies is, beyond it
superficialities, at its core, a capital-C Clue ...
