Internet and social control

JS did have at least part of his Internet marketing
program together, using email to generate interest in
his book (especially successful on Pynchon-L, if not
elsewhere, but I don't know how many P-listers
actually bought copies of the book) and using the Web
to market it. 

What was bogus -- start to finish -- was is claim to
have been the first to create a book using the
Internet for research and using electronic publishing
tools that, by the time he discovered them, were
already standard in the business.
