Pynchon Interview Playboy Japan -- Translation Questions

You are correct.  There is no date on the page.  In fact, all of it appears
in Japanese of varying font sizes (probably headlines and such), and the
very beginning of the article (which is not part of my posted translation)
seems to be a biographical blurb about Pynchon.  I say this only because the
title _Mason & Dixon_ appears amid the Japanese characters (in English),
close to the number 97 (presumably referring to its year of publication),
and it includes other numbers sprinkled throughout the blurb (1937, 53, 59,
63, 66, 49, 73, 20, 84, and 90).
