I'm glad that some fine African-American writers
choose not to believe this. _Their Eyes Were Watching
God_ by Zora Neale Hurston, a novel I recently read,
is a good example of the power of this language, its
beauty and creativity (it also offers hurricane
scenes that are ineresting to read alongside "The
Small Rain"). The novels of Amos Tutuola -- which I've
recommended here several times -- also testify to the
power of non-standard English.
