Right, in my experience once a person gets past the
simple ignorance of what AAVE (aka Ebonics) actually
is (replacing the distorted portrayals that have been
too common in the media), the fears and prejudices
generally fade away.  Malign sounds like Slothrop 
with his white ass sticking out up above the toilet
and terrified of those big bad black boys in the
bathroom; not being able to understand what they say
just compounds the rape anxiety.  (Extending the
comparison, Malign usually manages to get himself out
of the embarrassing predicaments he creates for
himself here on Pynchon-L by burrowing ever deeper
down the toilet and kicking shit in his wake.)

Respecting the language that people grow up learning
to speak also requires a certain level of empathy for
others  -- a quality distinctly absent from the online
persona that Malign has created in this forum.
