The portrait of Flanagan won the award, which is (probably) Oz's most
prestigious art award (always get a feature on the nightly news, as well.
Seeing as how Gould's Book of Fish has been mentioned by a few here
recently, you might want to try to find Flanagan's film "The Sound of One
Hand Clapping". It was based on his (I think) second novel, and he was all
but *forced* to direct it by the producers, despite the fact that he's,
well, a novelist. This is the only case I've ever heard of where a novelist
is made to direct an adaptation of his work without wanting to. But the
producers said they honestly couldn't think of anyone better qualified to do
this. He's very frank in admitting that his role consisted of trying not to
touch equipment, wander into shot, confuse actors or knock over lights.

Yes, in fact 2014 will be an unprecedented time for art, my spies tell me.
2015, nicht so gut (but not bad, either).
