Sure, but how many columnists, politicians, and millisons have been saying the
same thing for the last two years?  Does Pynchon say anything new about this
obvious facet of our post 9-11 world?  I agree with him that our civil
liberties are at risk in this new War on Terrorism, but so what?  We (the rat
in my pocket & I) all (and whomever wants to be included) knew that.
