>>>Okay, as I was the one who used the phrase but
nonetheless did none of the following, unless of
course this caricature is applied to ALL the usual
suspects here, I gotta axe, what's the bug up your ass
on this one?<<<
It was just my reaction to reading the slew of posts this morning. The
arguments are quite hilarious, and the claims of objectivity....come on.
Anyone who has been reading the list for a while could have summarized all
of our arguments before we posted them. It is all very predictable. That the
seriousness of the discussion is adult and laughing about it is infantile is
ass-forwards.
>>>Especially as it's easy enough to sit
back and simply fire of the occasional (though
admittedly entertaining, even anticipated) one-liner
or otherwise oblique comment(ary? Not always quite
sure), but I can't much recall ever having any idea
whatsoever of what you might actually believe, have to
say, or otherwise hold about anything of Pynchon's
himself.<<<
Short-term memory problems are common here.
>>>Though I still much appreciate having that
Chemical Wedding of Christian Rosencranz/Lord and Lady
Lepton thing pointed out to me. I don't get this kind
of shit offlist, where people simply don't want to
deal with the kind of shit I take on ...<<<
And can you blame them? My last attempt at doing
something serious here was when I hosted MDMD(20).
Worked my ass off. And, I experienced the same thing
as you. Not much engagement about it onlist. Most of
the substantive interaction came in offlist posts from
people I didn't know were here. So, rather than continue
trying to work hard with no onlist engagement, I decided
to interact according to the unspoken onlist rules. I
need engagement Dave. I'm lonely. My family is
embarrassed by me. Only really crazy people want to
spend time with me. I'm doing my best.
