Dissent is a condition of possibility for democracy.  Perhaps THE condition of possibility for democracy.  Perhaps even a, THE condition of possibility of  politics, period.  Without dissent, or at kleast, and even more fundamentally, the possibility therefor, there is no politics, much less democracy.  Not necessarily a sufficient condition for either politics in general or democracy in particular, but, certainly, a necesary one ...
