>>>Galling though it may be to admit, Pynchon writes, and
we read, the foreword in May 2003, when, as Paul N and
others note, "homeland" is a word that is strongly
associated with the US (leaving Canada out and
rejecting the chauvinistic use of "America") -- it's
part of the buzz. Pynchon writes for a US audience,
primarily, too -- _1984_ with his foreword is
currently for sale in bookstores only in the US, later
this year in Britain (the other partner in the
so-called "coalition" of countries willing to kill
innocent people in Iraq in order to satisfy the blood
lust of Bush and some of his fellow US residents).
Pynchon is an "American" (US) writer, too, everytime
he sits down to write anything, unavoidably.<<<

I know that this is meant to show that my thought
that America is gazing at its own reflection in every
pool was off, but it reads like a further example of
such to me, especially the implications of the
assertion about Pynchon at the end.
