What do you think about the number 7 in _1984_, Otto?
Dead on. Do we say "spot-on" in the USA. We do say "right on." In fact,
"right on" as in "right on brother" is one of my favorites.
My wife asked me about "up" recently. We were in a restaurant and I
asked the waiter if we could "settle up" (pay the bill). My wife asked
me about "sit up" (as in "sit up straight young lady or you'll have no
desert after diner") and "sit up" the popular exercise that is said to
give one a "six-pack" shape to the abdominal. Get up, stand up, stand up
for your rights. Don't give up the fight. I met up with him at the
library.
I'm fed up with your behavior young lady. It was a set up. Set up like a
bowling pin and knocked down. When playing cards. we say, Anty-up, by
which we mean, put up your money if you're playing. In the gin mill
(bar, pub, drinking establishment) we say, belly-up to the bar, by which
we mean, come have a drink. Put up or shut up.
I ain't lookin' to block you up
Shock or knock or lock you up,
Analyze you, categorize you,
Finalize you or advertise you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
Right on, Otto
