It's like some weird form of literary blackmail:   "Either you read the passage my way, or I'll conclude Pynchon is a shitty writer."  As if it were *because* of our interpretation that he's a shitty writer.  If we would just change our minds and see it the way Jbor sees it, then Pynchon will be all good again. Something very unsettling about that if you ask me.
