The Honest Outlaw
Thanks for this, Otto. Only spineless idiots & whorish fellators of the
antichrist in a flightsuit can find anything to say against my man Hunter,
who knows the lost art of the effective curse. In an age in which the word
Fuck is on every four-year-old's tongue, he still manages to draw blood with
the language. Hunter S. Thompson is arguably the most powerful shaman in
American Literature. He will be read for centuries to come.

Even here? We're in bat country, dammit! The last survivors and the scions
of the Generation of Swine control the flow of information like everybody's
nasty big brother who got away with everything when Mom and Dad were out
because he could lie convincingly and still beat you up the next time.
Pardon me while I hit my bongload of hydro. Where was I? Oh yeah, the world
needs a potentially unpopular voice of sarcastic dissent who is a lot
funnier than Noam Chomsky because you can have a drink and discharge
firearms irresponsibly with him. One can be a good pacifist and still drink
and discharge firearms for fun. For years I participated in the planning and
execution of an illegal Fourth of July fireworks display from a barge off of
Harwichport, Massachusetts. Our barrage was considerably larger and more
impressive than that of most of the surrounding towns on Cape Cod. Off-duty
cops and Coast Guard personnel would come down to watch from the beach. They
knew that if they approached in a boat, we'd spook and the show would be
over. Blowing shit up is fun, dammit! Long live Dr. Hunter S Thompson. All
hail the great god Lono.
America watches "Cops" and buys remastered Eagles CD's. Hunter takes another
shot of Knob Creek and kicks at the darkness until it bleeds daylight.
In passing, just before singing "Big River" at a club in Cambridge last
night, I was informed by an audience member of the demise of June Carter
Cash. Goodbye to a great lady who put a smile upon my curmudgeon's face
numerous times.
Peace
Joe
