It needn't apply to a special event. The post-war
relationship has been one of continued and continual
subservience.
If the strong expression you cite is the word
"subservience," it need not be read as grovelling,
spaniel-like behavior on Blair's part. Any ally of
the US post-WW II is going to play a subservient role;
it's the only role offered.
Peter Riddell wrote in the London Times:
"Like every Prime Minister since the Suez debacle in
1956, with the significant exception of the
pro-European Sir Edward Heath, Baroness Thatcher
concluded that 'Britain must never find itself on the
opposite side to the US in a major international
crisis affecting Britain’s interests.' Reflecting the
