I've said all along that there are generalisations in the paragraph which
can be more broadly applied, set alongside the allusions to England before
and during the Blitz ("prewar thinking", "enemy bombs begin to fall on one's
homeland", "altering the landscape", "casualties among friends and
neighbors", "the homeland in danger", "strong leadership and effective
measures", "the air raids", "the all clear to sound", "Churchill's war
cabinet" etc.)
