One of the more interesting studies of _Lot 49_ is this one:

COLVILE, Georgiana M.M. (1988) _Beyond and Beneath the Mantle: On Thomas
Pynchon's 'The Crying of Lot 49'_. Editions Rodopi B.V.: Amsterdam.

She looks at the relationship between Pynchon's novel and Remedios Varo's
paintings in some detail. It should be available at one of your larger
university libraries; shiny silver cover.

There are also some good essays in Patrick O'Donnell's collection:

O'DONNELL, Patrick. (1991) _New Essays on 'The Crying of Lot 49_. CUP:
Cambridge.

Pierre-Yves Petillon's essay in particular is very good.
