Pynchon and fascism

Go back to my example of the ingredients on the package of a Power Bar (
a popular Sports Nutrition meal replacement bar). The "narrative" runs
something like, eat this bar and you will swim stronger, bike more
aerodynamically, run faster and finish your triathlon in record time.
The analysis (one of the tasks of criticism)  would not bring out the
"works"  relationships with the author, nor reconstruct through the text
a thought or experience, but merely analyze the "work" through its
structure, its architecture, its intrinsic forms, and the play of its
internal relationships.
