Read what?

Literary theory can be said to come into being when the approach to
literary texts is no longer based on non-linguistic, that is to say
historical and aesthetic considerations.

and

resistance to theory is a resistance to the use of language about
language.

The Resistance to Theory (paul De Man)

Which all reminds me of the greatest (an objective fact!) novel in the
english language, Little Dorrit, by Charles Dickens.

With this prelude, Mr. Meagles went through the narrative the
established narrative, which has become tiresome, the matter-of-course
narrative which we all know by heart. How after interminable attendance
and correspondence, after infinite impertinences, ignorances, and
insults, my lords made a Minute, number three thousand four hundred and
seventy-two, allowing the culprit to make certain trials of his
invention at his own expense. How the trials were made....

Forms? Terms?

I see B/Tuttle fixing the machine, but later he is consumed by paper.
