"He-e-e-y," Zoyd spoke to the room, I heard of job skills like that, but
don't know that I'd care to associate with that heavy-duty type of
hombre, nothin' personal understand, that is o' course if you're
someplace you can hear me. Hah?" No reply. The card went into his pocket
pockets, wallets
gave it to Prairie, as if she were supposed to be
the one to have it all along. VL67
A business card./ amulet. OK, so the sacred is profaned. Same old
Pynchon theme repeatedly. Myths, are not other people's religions in
Pynchon's megatropoly-technopoly, they are all business. No place is
sacred. What is Zoyd talking about? Job Skills?
130 Public Servant Brock Vond. He's got skills. Has he got funding? For
now. Who is he working for? And who is working for him? What about his
personal life? Can it be used against him? Dirty tricks? Does he mix
business with pleasure?
131 "I assume you're buying skills and not just feelings here?"
Buy sure, but how about give? The one thing you truly want, huh/? A good
crack at a evil man? I know 'cause I can see it in your eyes.
Buying skill not just feelings. But Ralph thinks he can get her to kill
pro-bono. Is Ralph, like Zoyd, just cheap? Doesn't add up. Ralph is
loaded, but he doesn't want to pay a women to kill BV. DL wants
revenge, but DL realizes that once she does the Job for Ralph and his
pals, she'll have to do it again and again. It will be her nine-to-five.
She's go the skills. But she turns her back on Ralph and his boyz.
132 "A girl did one Death touch job and right away people started
getting ideas." Whatever she chose to do would get her in trouble. A
double bind. And there is no way out!
41 "Yep. You in some trouble, Zoyd.
"moon darlin', when am I out of it?
Well, we're all in it together, kid.
