Not at all, and I never thought that it's a fake. Compared to what he says in the "1984"-Foreword it absolutely makes sense.

But it's sorry that we haven't a Japanese Pynchon-reader here to tell us about the Pynchon-reception, especially of "Vineland" in Japan.

  So, (and this is totally off the VL subject, but after having posted a literal ton of stuff re: Japanese culture for this chapter of VL) is it *really* all that ridiculous or far-fetched to think that Pynchon might have granted an interview to Playboy: Japan?
