Plagued by Aküfi

Much has been said about the extreme length of German compound nouns. But 
after dealing with the German language for quite some time now, I've found that 
more than making their words as long as possible, Germans love to shorten them 
up. Not surprisingly, this sometimes makes the words even more confusing than 
they would have been if left alone.
