Last year was Imre Kertesz, VS Naipaul the year
before; if the method of flip-flopping names with
obscurities continues, then this year might again be
someone we've all heard of.
The attached --

--pushes the case of a New Zealander, one Jane Frame,
as well as a Syrian poet, Ali Ahmad Said ("better
known as Adonis").
Of particular note: "Frame moved to the Whangaparaoa
Peninsula north of Auckland in 1972 and changed her
surname to Clutha."
However, based on the name/no-name tradition, this
would seem not to be their year.
The article also mentions Roth and DeLillo as the most
likely Americans, mentioning also JM Coetzee, Margaret
Atwood, Carlos Fuentes, Mario Vargas Llosa, and French
poet Yves Bonnefoy.
Always good to get the Kiwi point of view.
