Yesterday I ran across an oddish Pynchon mention in Jonathan Raban's new
novel _Waxwings_. A British novelist in the story sez "[American
writers] are like exiles in their own country, half of them. Pynchon,
Salinger, Roth . . .Who does Roth talk to up there in Connecticut? He's
a recluse. Or What's-his-name, Gass. No, not Gass--the other one.
Gaddis. Lives in a shack up a lane somewhere on Long Island . . ."
(the Brit isn't current with obituary page)
