They now include the representatives of organized labor--correctly so to
the extent to which employment within the capitalist prosperity depends
on the continued defense of the established social order. 

Can the outcome, for the near future,  be in doubt? 

Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go and develop needs that transcend
my economic ones.

And I guess that's why Elton calls them the affluent society blues.
