Probably been noted before but early in the chapter we have Sr. Rochelle
thus:
"Oh, that happens. But not around here. Here it's always out at the
margins,
using the millimeters and little tenths of a second, you understand,
scuffling
and scraping for everything we get" (112)
Reflected much later by Inoshiro Sensei, thus:
"Sure", he told her, "this is for the rest of us down here with the
insects, the
ones who don't quite get to make warrior, who with two tenths of a
second to
decide fail to get it right and live with it for the rest of our lives -
..." (127)
Sounds like Prairie's initiation is not that different from D.L.'s: both
teachers
scrambing for scraps.
