A sad and beautiful world

Yeah, I've been spreadin' the gospel of GR to friends and students for some
time, and I've actually gotten a couple of former students to read it. Both
have acknowledged that they didn't exactly "get it," but could definitely
tell they'd just read something magnificent.
It's a tough book to recommend: I've read it, I will continue to read it and
learn from it every few years or so for the rest of my life, probably, but
it's definitely not for everyone. So as I recommend it, I have to be ready
for friends who will embrace it as I have, and others who will fling it
across the room in despair (and disgust).
Speaking of magnificent books, Yann Martel's _Life of Pi_ is *wonderful*! I
highly recommend it.
Respectfully,
Tim S.
