There is a sub-text that has to do with work (i.e., cooking). For
example, 

Cooking is what Mildred Pierce does. 

Cooking is not exactly what the folks at Prairie's pizza job do. 

Prairie mentions kidnapping. I suspect that she's **Not Attentive** to
the sub-text in this chapter--Hugo's Hunchback. Not yet.
