"It ain't that I don' have Hollywood connections. I know Ernie
Triggerman." (VL, Ch. 4, p. 51)
Well, now, there ain't no Ernie that I can find, but perhaps his sister
Olga Triggerman? Yes, of course. Olga Triggerman in a 1980 Israeli
film, done in Hebrew, natch, starring Yitzhak Bareket, Boris Botwinick,
and Fira Cantor. But Olga's part was a bit smaller in this 88 minute
movie about "a woman trying to free her husband from a Russian prison
camp. She lives in Israel, organizes strikes, and gains public and press
support. But her public life begins to clash with her private life as
she falls in love with a Hebrew teacher. This causes tensions in her
family and the Israeli Russian community. Her love for the teacher,
desire to end her heroic public obligations, and live her own life
compose her tragedy." http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081042/plotsummary
Oh well, right time frame though and the Pynch'd be the kinda guy who'd
watcha movie like this, yah? (Why am I speaking in this horrible
accent?) Perhaps Mr. Pynchon did observe this movie and was smitten with
Olga's ability.
