One of the things that happens in VL is that the characters can't quite
see themselves for what they are, have been, have don and have failed to
do. But, they can see all these in their doubles. And everyone is a bit
of a double of everyone else. So of course Flash is paired with Zoyd.
Both are now in-lawed to the Union Family. But Flash (another guy who
has changed his name) is paired with Hector. Bloods, you might say. Or,
I should have said, Vatos.

What Ralph are you talking about, Sr. or Jr. ??
