Im not suggesting that P modeled his college of the surf after SUNY
Buffalo.

Not at all.

Or that the Rockefeller connection is significant.

But, if VL is a novel about Work, we should be able to connect the
college of the surf (page 204) with the military industrial complex.

UB students and city and campus police clash in February 1970. On
February 25, 18 persons are arrested, 12 others hospitalized with
injuries,
and at least two dozen campus buildings are damaged.

So what the hell has this got to do with all the goon squads that keep
smashing in on people in this book? What has Pynchon to do with the Law?

Well, anyway, that hotel in Hawaii, gives everyone a view of the ocean.
I'm not sure how many floors it has got but it's tall. But that view we
get of the hotel, where we can see people smoking pot and having sex,
it's the kinda view that the cops might want to have. No?

Now why do the folks around the college of the surf build their houses
nice and flat?

So that the planes don't pull their chimneys down or what?
