Soccer world championships for women

If anybody had noticed it, the soccer world championships for women are 
taking place in the US at the moment.

These are the results of yesterday (a. o.):

Norway - France 2:0
Germany -  Canada 4:1
North Corea - Nigeria 3:0 (!)

BTW, did Pynchon ever write about soccer? I cannot remember... the most 
"European" American writer, I'm a little astonished about that...
