This dislocation ('at a loose end') invokes
> the flashbacks that take up half the chapter. But the chapter also ties

Yeah, and Sasha is also connected to Zoyd when she tells the story about
how she got the canary gig. After this job, Sasha gets into organizing
again. It's in her blood. Her mother, recall, can remember being shot at
by Pinkertons better than she can remember the birth of Sasha. No wonder
Frenesi got depressed after P's birth. Poor thing. And, just as Sasha
complains that she didn't get any help from her sisters when the war
changed everything, we should not overlook the fact that Frenesi's {the
truly tragic figure in this novel about women and work ;--) } sisters
weren't much help either; (Rich mentioned Esther's abortion), advice
included putting LSD in the baby formula, raising the child on Trotsky.
