In his book "LSD-Mein Sorgenkind" (1982) Hofmann says that he first had
produced LSD-25 in 1938 but that the substance had been of no interest for
the next five years.
The first accidental trip Hofman notes on April 16, 1943, followed by a test
trip on the 19th. The description he gives about that experiment easily can
be put into that theory and pattern Stan Grof has provided with his "Realms
of the Human Unconscious" (1975), to my knowledge still the best theory
about LSD and how it could be used for therapeutic purposes.
