Village, listening to jazz, mingling with folk
singers, reading the Beats and letting them inspire
his writing -- nothing beatnik about that, of course
not.  Dropping out and moving to Mexico? Nothing there
either, ever the straight-laced Ivy Leaguer,
obviously, loyally following the family's Wall Street
tradition, conservative Catholic all the way, clearly,
Pynchon and Pat Buchanan, two P's in a pod...
