I'm sure you'll provide some quotes to support this.
Given the experiences of the American Revolution I'd guess that any real
American patriot would have opposed this undeclared illegal war payed with
taxpayer's money that hadn't been granted by any kind of democratic process
required for cases like this by the constitution.
No taxation without representation. That's a good American value that should
be followed.
