And thank goodness for that, imo. Personally, I like
the fact that, apart from the occasional interview
with a reporter or researcher, Pynchon lets his works
speak for themselves instead of setting himself up as
a TV talking head of the celebrity blowhard variety.

Where do you think Pynchon should make his first TV
talk show appearance, what pressing world issue do you
think he should address, and why?

Would you have him start on Oprah, or somewhere else?

And I'm still unclear about how you defend the
assertion that eschewing celebrity somehow makes
Pynchon abnormal or eccentric, when it seems such a
sensible alternative to offering oneself up as talk
show fodder on US TV. Like most people, he's managed
to avoid that indignity.

I won't be surprised at all when Pynchon finally
appears as the subject of a subtantial interview in a
seriou US newspaper or magazine, or if he winds up
using the occasion of a Nobel Prize acceptance speech
to make some kind of statement, but I'm not holding my
breath until Pynchon shows up on the Tube
pontificating about world affairs with some blow-dried
prime-time pundit.
